Talk about how posters were used to promote the idyll of Metro-land in the early 20th century
With the rapid expansion of the Underground in the early 20th century, there was an urgent need to attract commuters to the new suburbs. Moving to Metro-land and other lesser known established Underground suburbs was promoted through posters. David Bownes, Senior Curator at London Transport Museum, explores how posters offering a glimpse of a better, healthier, lifestyle fuelled the growth of London and changed the shape of the city for ever.
