What you need to know about Merchant Navy Records

A course on tracing ancestors who were in the Merchant Navy


The Merchant Navy is one of the best documented occupations outside the armed services. Registers of service exist for both ordinary seamen and officers starting in 1835. Although there is a gap between 1858 and 1918, these continue until 1972. We will look at the information that these records contain and how to access them.
