This lecture will review some of the roots associated with mobility from 1965 to date, from analogue to digital, from zero to 2.5 billion mobile customers, drawing in particular on the landmarks associated with the first 25 Years of cellular innovation and investment.

This lecture will include some trends and likely developments for the next 10 years as communications reaches into both the developing world, broader mobile internet usage, and new areas of growth associated with applications anywhere anytime.
This lecture will also mark the 25th anniversary of EU early coordination of digital mobile R+D and the formation 20 years ago of the GSM Association in September 1987.
The lecture is free to attend and open to all, and will be followed by a networking dinner, details to follow. The evening provides a great opportunity to meet fellow engineers and share experiences with those with similar interests in an informal setting. All delegates are invited to a drinks reception, immediately following the lecture, hosted by the IET London Local Network.
