This discussion focuses on the work of artists intervening in the public sphere
Mark Wallinger’s reconstruction of Brian Haw’s Parliament Square protest re-opened the debate about artists’ relationship to politics and public spaces. Was Wallinger’s installation more effective in raising public consciousness than Haw’s? This discussion focuses on the work of artists intervening in the public sphere: getting their hands dirty in public debates, and embracing – even courting – the media’s hysterical response.
Speakers: artists Mark Wallinger, Mark McGowan, Peter Kennard and Zoe Walker.
Chair: JJ Charlesworth, Reviews Editor, ArtReview.
