Designs - Getting them registered

If you are a furniture, product, graphic, jewellery, ceramics or accessories designer you need to think about protecting your designs

If you are a furniture, product, graphic, jewellery, ceramics or accessories designer you need to think about protecting your designs – especially if you are thinking about licensing, working in partnership, selling abroad or going into manufacture.

And the best way to protect designs is by registering them. This event will look at the ins and outs of design registration, why you should do it and will also take you through the design registration procedure.

It will also respond to all of your questions such as, why register a design, what designs can be registered, how much does it cost, what protection does it really give and how it operates internationally.

This Own It talk will be given by Mark Studley of The Patent Office Designs Registry Team. Mark will answer all of your questions and provide all the information you need to know before you take the next step in the legal process.

Aspects that will be covered in the talk include:
*What to consider before applying for a design registration
*Why do it
*How to apply to register your design
*Case studies
*The various design registration systems – UK, EU or beyond?
*What value does a registered design have on the balance sheet
*The Patent Office website

There will plenty of opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.

Please note that you will need to have an understanding of intellectual property to benefit from this talk.
