On porous materials and novel ways of making them.
Sponges and polymer foams are soft and squashy. Highly porous materials made of metals or ceramics, can be strong, lightweight, thin walled and temperature resistant. They are used in human tissue engineering, optically active semiconductors, turbine blades and sound deadening materials. These and other topics will be covered and novel ways of making highly porous materials will be discussed.
